"UO" is an acronym for Ultima Online which is a graphical massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), released on September 25, 1997, by Origin Systems.

It is now an old game, one of the first of its genre and has an endearing 'retro' look and feel to its gameplay. Some consider UO to be more dynamic than even the modern MMORPGs out there as you have much more freedom over the design of your character in terms of the skills he or she can learn and the objects and resources your character can use or produce with them. You are also able to buy your own house... a personal space you can call your own and decorate as you see fit.

Q: Do I have to pay to play this game?


A: No. It's all free. However, we are pleased and greatful to accept donations, for which you will be rewarded. (The server does cost money to maintain. See here for more information.

Q: What is the STAT Cap?


A: 275 (+20 fluxes). Each stat cannot exceed 120 or be lower than 35. Fluxes cost 100,000 gps and 50,000 reward tickets from Reward Boards.

Q: What is the SKILL Cap?


A: 1000. You can have maximum 9 skills trained up to 100% (Grandmaster) and other 100 points distributed amongst other skills up to 75%.

Q: Is AFK macroing allowed?


A: You can AFK macro on Burstfire UO.

Q: What is the focus of gameplay on this server?


A: Our main focus is Player vs Player (PvP) but we do aim to offer a balance with that and Roleplay (RP), and Player vs Monster (PvM) also.

Q: Which map(s) do you use?


A: Trammel and Tokuno.

Q: Which version of the game do you use?


A: Mondain's Legacy autopatched to 6.0.14.3 or 6.0.14.4

Q: What do I get when I start?


A: You will be able to choose a total of 150 points in skills, 80 points in stats.

Q: Do I have to request an account?


A: No, your account will automatically be created when you log in.

Q: How many accounts can I have?


A: Just one. You are permitted use of 5 characters on 1 account, however.

Q: Can I play in a L.A.N with my friend/ partner/ family member?


A: Yes. However you must contact a member of staff to request permission prior to anyone else playing on BFUO with the same IP address. All LANs are monitored thereafter to ensure you are not abusing another's account.

Q: I have been account/house looted. What do I do?
A: Please click here for further information.

Q: I cannot logon. Why?
A: You might have wrong patch, wrong client or the shard might be down. Be sure to check the shard status by reading the topic on IRC channel #burstfire.uo on quakenet. Also check that you are connected to the internet and that your firewall enables you to play.

Q: Where can I talk to other people outside the game?
A: Use IRC channel #burstfire.uo on quakenet or forums on www.burstfire.net/forums.

Q: Can I use macroing programs?
A: Yes. Using programs like UO Auto Pilot or UO Loop is LEGAL.

Q: I cannot see other peoples' text in-game. What's wrong?
A: In your options (Alt+O) there is an option called "Enable Translation Server". Make sure that this option is unchecked. If you are still having problems a simple reboot can sometime fix it as well.

Q:A player is murdering/looting/stealing from me in the newbie dungeon. What should I do?
A:Take a screenshot first then page, these claims need sufficient proof. This is not because we do not believe you, but to avoid abuse of the trust invested in players by our staff.


Starting

Q: How can I join the shard?
A: Click on the 'How to join' us link in the side menu.

Q: Why do I have to wait 48 hours for my account to be activated?
A: Applications are proccessed manually by admins so it takes some time to do it.

Q: I have been waiting for 48 hours now and I still cannot play. Why?
A: In this case go to IRC, channel #burstfire.uo.help and ask for admin there.

Q: I have my account, I have just loged in for the first time. What can I do?
A: You will need to click a green button which will appear to confirm you have the correct patch. Your character will appear in a room with a magical gate. Walk trough the gate and you will get a chance to choose another skill in which you shall be proficient (50%). You will be then teleported to town Ocllo. You should probably join the Academy first as it is really handy for new players. Then, if you're a trader, start crafting, and if you're an adventurer, go visit the newbie dungeon as you are safe from other players there.

Q: Can I get any tips what skills to take or how to train them?
A: Staff will not give you any tips. Visit BF UO bible on bible.uo.burstfire.net, use forums on www.burstfire.net/forums or join IRC channel #burstfire.uo on quakenet and ask other players to help you out. Become a part of community!


Steeds

Q: How can I get those cool looking steeds that some players are riding?
A: Search the land. There are nice spawns of steeds spread troughout the land, waiting for you to find and tame them.

Q: How can I dye my steed?
A: Use reward boards (located at every bank) to buy steed dye tub. You can apply dyes which you buy at a tailor and chose a color you like. Then use the steed dye tub on your steed.

Q: Why does my steed sometimes disappear?
A: There are two possibilities:
a) Your steed might be summoned therefore it will disappear in a while when spell ends.
b) There is a sphere bug that makes steeds disappear once in a while. We cannot do anything about it and we do not replace steeds lost in that way.


Map

Q: The map in Ultima Online is really small and hard to follow. Is there a better map?
A: Yes. Check www.uoam.net for Auto Map.

Q: I am stuck in the map. I cannot move. What can I do?
A: You can page for a staff member to move you. Sometimes it takes time before there is a staff member available so you can also help yourself out. Few tips: if you have magery skill you can use Teleport spell or Recall spell to move yourself. You only need 5% magery to cast a teleport spell from a scroll.


Events

Q: What is a PvP?
A: It is an organized fight between players or groups of players. Looting and stealing is forbidden unless stated otherwise, so it is safe to go with whatever equipment you have.

Q: What is a quest?
A: It is an organized staff runned event for players. Player killing and stealing is forbidden unless stated otherwise.

Q: What is a RP (RolePlaying) event?
A: It is an event where you need to roleplay your character. It can either be PvP or a quest.

Q: Sometimes when I play I hear messages like: '3, 2, 1, GO!' or 'All ghosts to the center' or similar things that dont make sense to me. What does that mean?
A: It means that PvP or quest is in progress and the staffmember who is running it is posting global messages so all players on PvP or quest can hear it. If you are not on the event then simply ignore the messages.

Q: How do I join a PvP?
A: Via the command .pvp or .pvp2. It will take you to the starting place of the PvP. Commands are only enabled during the starting phase of the PvP event and using them to avoid combat is considered illegal and will be punished.

Q: I typed .pvp or .pvp2 but nothing happens. Why?
A: Sometimes the staffmember who is runing the PvP enables the command only for a short time. So pay attention to global messages and type it whenever told so.

Q: I missed the entrace to PvP and I paged but nothing happens. Why?
A: It is your fault if you missed the entrance. Pages will be ignored.

Q: How do I join a quest?
A: Every quest is unique and therefore needs special conditions. So pay attention to global messages and you will know where to meet or what to do to join the quest.

Q: Do I get a reward for winning a PvP?
A: Yes. Regular prizes are Team PvP Tickets which you can use to dye your items. If the staffmember in charge of the PvP thinks it is appropriate to give extra reward you will recieve one but do not ask for it.

Q: Do I get a reward on a quest?
A: It is up to the staffmember running the quest to give out a reward. If you dont get any do not complain because you will be ignored.


Jail

Q: Where is jail located?
A: You cannot access jail unless you are put there for commiting an offence.

Q: Why can a player get jailed?
A: Read the shard rules for possible offences.

Q: I was jailed. How long will I stay in jail?
A: Type .jailtime to see how much time in jail you have left.

Q: My .jailtime doesnt work. What to do?
A: Check the walls on your jail cell. The signs there might contain information what to do. If not page.

Q: Can I be put in jail if I wish so?
A: Yes, depending on what the cause is.

Q: I have served my punishment but I am still in jail and .jailtime says I have X time left. Why?
A: When the server is down your jail time is not put off. So in most cases your X will be the time the shard was down during the time you were jailed.




Staff

Q: Can I be a Counselor/Gamemaster?
A: If current staff thinks that they lack members they will announce and you will be able to apply for position as staff. Also some players who get noticed by admins might get invited to become staff. But in any case asking staff members if you can be staff will not help you.

Q: Do staff members have player characters?
A: Yes.


Houses

Q: I want to buy a house. Is there anywhere I can see the different types of available houses?
A: Yes, there is a house showroom that is accessible by a portal in the Minoc carpentershop and another in Buc's Den.

Q: I accidentally placed my house on a tree, What do I do?
A:Within the first minute of placing your house you can redeed it and move it yourself so try to check it as soon as you place it. After that if the tree is severly obstructing movement in the house, page and a gm will assist you. (Note: don't place a house on top of yourself...you'll get stuck.)

Q: Can I have my house moved to a new location?
A: No, you must scrap the house and buy a new one if you want to move to a new location. You will receive about 80% of the cost of the house back in the form of a check in your bank account when you scrap it. The checks look like blank scrolls and can be cashed by double-clicking the scroll and targeting a banker.
